The Jardim de S. Lázaro (St. Lazarus Garden), ordered to be built by D. Pedro IV, according to legend, was intended to pay tribute to the women of the Invicta. It was the first public garden in the city, and was inaugurated in 1834. The imposing linden trees, magnolias, the bandstand and sculpture groups stand out, which is not unrelated to the proximity of the School of Fine Arts of Porto. Integrated in the fencing that borders it to the north is a fountain from the former convent of São Domingos. To the east of the garden is the Porto Municipal Public Library and, to the south, the magnificent baroque facade of the former convent of São Lázaro, attributed to Nicolau Nasoni.
